Amber

(see her rescue story on Labs For Adoption)

- November 17, 2005 Update -

We found a small - marble size - lump on her rib cage that remained, unchanging for couple weeks.  Needle biopsy diagnosed mast cell and recommended removal and biopsy.  The excellent surgeons of E. Hampton Vet Group removed it 11/17/05.

Pathology results will be in next week.  Amber must be kept separate and calm as possible - no running, jumping, climbing for at least 14 days.  The tumor removal was deep, very wide, full circle but no rib bone was removed (pathology results may require another surgery and bone removal)).  While sedated, vet did dental cleaning & fluoride.

Amber's long-time 'sniffing partner', "Rocky" (his rescue story on Labs For Adoption), paced the entire day she was removed from his presence and danced excitedly, insisting to SEE her soon as he sensed her return; she insisted to see him too.  They gently sniffed and kissed a couple minutes and both seemed to exhale with relief.

Btw, Amber weighed in at 83 lbs (we triple checked scale) --- a

PERFECT weight for her (compared to 103 lbs time of entering LILRR).

December 2 Update ... Pathology report

Mast Cell was Grade 2 and vets believe it was fully excised.  Mast cell is prevalent among dogs, pets and Grade 2 is known among that which can be safely and fully removed.  Pathology report states "the multiple margins submitted are examined and all suggest the excision of the mast cell tumor is wide and complete."  (they got it all!)

Thanks for the words of support during her convalescence - Amber greatly enjoyed the relaxing belly rubs and special coddling.  Tell Santa she wants a forever family willing to love and stand by her, thru thick and thin!
