"Billy"

est. DOB 10/15/99

September 2000

Rescued from NY CACC (no way this boy's heinous neglected condition occurred during the 48 hrs at shelter), this young chocolate male was too sick to immediately enter foster home and was boarded at vet for tests and appropriate medical care.

A nice lady (and LILRR volunteer) made time in her busy schedule to visit the veterinary hospital every day just to spend quality time with Billy - to make sure he knew he was not being abandoned again and cared for.  They enjoyed short easy walks and talks. (thank you, Aunt Trish!)  His bony frame and pitiful coat tell tale a sad past of trying to survive on the streets.

Billy leaves the veterinary hospital and enters an LILRR foster home -- an impromptu nap was in order from the stress and confusion.  A more rested Billy met the foster mom's vet to assess general health and well being - with close inspection of tail injuries -- Billy had begun chewing his tail while being boarded and due to his constantly wagging tail, it would not heal.

Billy had begun chewing his tail while boarded and due to his constant WAG, it would not heal.  Sporting a freshly shaved and bandaged tail, Billy enjoys early morning walks

Billy LOVES plowing thru snow and catching snow balls! No more tail chewing - the tail healed nicely and hair is returning.  Billy has obviously been strongly berated in the past and requires a gentle family having a sense of humor with spare time to focus on *him* every day.  Billy is intelligent and very eager to please and responds to positive reinforcement.  He pulls strongly during leash walks but is improving with daily training.  He has a strong prey drive and bolts to chase a leaf blowing in the wind!

April 2001 -- Billy is adopted ... and returned to LILRR:

we are told that Billy was adored by adopters.  he cuddled every nap time and night with his new best friend - their 5 yr. old child.  several months after adoption, the child was rushed to emergency suffering hives and breathing problems determined by the pediatrician to be allergies created by carpet and/or dog.  pediatrician told them to pull out all the carpet & get rid of the dog!

Billy returns to LILRR

where he knows he's loved and safe... and can play!

Cassie (also adopted from LILRR several years earlier) makes room for Billy on

her sofa while the cat watches from afar (he will be in the pix soon).
