"Mo" H.
April 27, 2004 ... 'Mo' - 11 mo. black Lab pup, born blind Upstate NY Animal Shelter explained this pup kept escaping from being chained to a tree and, after many times found aimlessly wandering the neighborhood and dangerous streets, Mo was removed from that home. First contacted by the NY shelter animal control officer April 27, 2004, LILRR agreed to be back-up - last resort - if another Rescue could not help him and he was not adopted. The animal shelter posted across the internet to many varied Rescues, seaboard to seaboard, and on PetFinder.com but no one came through for him. So, on May 12, 2004, Mo entered LILRR ...
Above 2 pix were taken soon after arriving the LILRR volunteer foster home.
LILRR finally raised funds to secure accurate ophthalmic diagnosis and prognosis - if there was any chance to restore this pup's eyesight, it needed done ASAP...
--- June 24 2004 UPDATE --- Mo had MRI's on both eyes at Long Island Vet Specialists by Board Certified Ophthalmologist, John Sapienza which disclose both retinas are fully detached. Mo is not a candidate for corrective surgery to restore his eyesight.
Mo, like all blind Labs, quickly learned his immediate home environment and created a mental map of it ... he gets around as well as a sighted Lab, so long as furniture, fences and trees are not moved too often. He loves playing with other Labs and - once they discern and respect his limitation - it's normal. - September 2005 Update - Mo is adopted & renamed ... "Bo"
