"Charlie"

--- When First Rescued ---

Found laying in the street with serious injuries,

he was taken to the animal shelter (NY CACC) but not claimed by owner.

Injured too badly to be adopted, LILRR was contacted

to save his life and secure his welfare.

These pics were taken March 1998 during rehab ...

he was a sweet, happy and patient patient ;)

Charlie required immediate veterinary attention for an abraded neck and throat and multiple breaks in the right hind leg.  After several months of recuperation within Rescue foster home, he was lovingly adopted.  Charlie began chewing the end of his tail to the bone very soon after adoption.  Adopter's vet suggested a special diet and varying prescriptions, but nothing worked for 7 months.  Afraid for his welfare, Charlie was returned to LILRR for indepth medical assessment and rehab...

Because Charlie had not chewed the tail during

the 6 months of rehab, we decided to start

fresh - replicate the environment as when fostered after rescue.  Prescriptions were ceased and his diet was returned to PHD ... now we would wait

and carefully monitor for reaction...

Charlie stopped chewing his tail immediately and after a full 12 month assessment, we can safely attest his tail is nibbled on at times - usually when laying idle or during a moment of excitement but the tail hair returned and remained!  The tail base issue likely derives from spine/muscle/nerve sensitivity resulting from his street injuries.

- Summer 2000 -

Charlie is promoted for adoption consideration ...

" Charlie"

DOB 10/96

This handsome chocolate male is healthy, playful, well behaved, housebroken,

and very people oriented.  He gets along with other dogs and loves to entice dog

play with booda ropes and balls.  Charlie requires a family with quality home time

or someone who can take the lucky dog to the office.

Charlie may be an excellent candidate for therapy dog training.

Charlie LOVES belly rubs!
