'Moe-Gabe'

"Moe-Gabe"

DOB: est. Nov. 2000

Yellow, 75 lb., Male

This young male Lab appeared to have survived a short lifetime of neglect and inattention; desperate for attention and affection, he was untrained and clueless.  His worst habit was body slamming upon greeting ... not a 4-paws-on-the-floor body slam, but a full body lunge to your head and shoulders.    LILRR foster homes stay full with rescued Labs needing time, training and attention.  It was very apparent this bundle of unfocused energy would benefit special focus. Rescue funds are very limited but the best interest of each Lab must be considered, so we decided to hire the professional assistance of a trusted dog trainer, Matthew Posnick and off to “Camp Daddy Love” he went... “Moe” was named by Posnick’s daughter but refused to answer to that name - he happily responds to "Gabe".  Moe-Gabe spent a month in the trainer's home to learn to walk on leash (without pulling like a draft horse), learn to not body slam people and get an excellent head start to becoming a well-mannered Labrador Retriever.   Professional x-rays indicate he has dysplasia in both hips that has responded wonderfully to  Glucosamine and Moe now bounds endlessly across 5.5 acres and dashes without reservation up and down stairs!  He loves people and is excellent with other Labs.  This nicer mannered, calmer, handsome big huggable galoot is ready for a responsible forever family!

'Gabe'

DOB est November 2000

Gabe first entered LILRR in August 2001 and then adopted by a family with 3 sons who loved having this wonderful new 'brother' (Moe-Gabe story in Heart's Home).  Life was good until divorce caused a family split and move in with relatives unable to accept Gabe.  So, Gabe returned to LILRR end of August.  A very confused and frightened Lab entered foster a whopping 20 lbs overweight but otherwise healthy.  He settled in with other Labs in foster home (above pic: Gabe stretched out on sofa with Pipsqueak on floor) and enjoys leisure walks and play but Gabe is a big, laid back, loveable, couch potato.  Placed on a restricted diet (no junk food) and regular exercise, Gabe will shed the dangerous fat.  And he is ready for a new forever family that won't let him over eat and won't let him go!
