Join the effort to help save Labs!
October 2004, LILRR rescued a skeleton-thin and severely ill young yellow Lab from a Long Island kill shelter. Time of the essence, he was rushed to vet intensive care; he would not make it another night in the pound. The Lab, now named 'Rusty', has required multiple varied blood tests and titers at vet and still teeters on the edge, continuing to lose weight regardless intensive vet care. His vet bill is already $1,500 and climbing ... we need funds to continue tests or the sweetheart will die.
Late summer we rescued a 1 year black female (Liza) burned with hot oil and a 2 year black male (Woody) - their combined immediate emergency vet/medical and subsequent follow-up medical care wiped the LILRR bank account dry, and then some! In between and around other, more healthy, rescued Labs' general medical and routine vetting, there was Doc and Mo's optometry and Mickey's life threatening respiratory infection and Tucker's mange and life-threatening allergies ... the list goes on and on and on.
We hope you will spare $25, $75, $100, $500 or more to help us save these lives!. Donations can be made by the secure online electronic services of PayPal ( email address: lab911@aol.com ) or mail check to:

Photos taken at kill shelter at time of rescue. Weak, very shaky and too unstable to
rise without a clearly visible strained and painful effort.

Not contagious (to human or other dogs), not improving at vet and too weak for
more invasive testing, he is removed from vet to private foster home.
On continuing medications and special diet, we hope a more relaxed environment
will jump-start his auto immune system and be able to continue tests soon.

On his behalf, thank you for notes of well wishes and adding him to prayers.

The big galoot only wants to please. Answering to the name of "Rusty", he sits on command, retrieves balls and happily leaps to catch high-balls. He is tall, "leggy" and deep yellow. Housebroken, healthy and gaining weight, he's still eagerly learning leash rules and basic commands and gets along great with other playful Labs.
