Rory of Killian

Nov 28, 1996 – July 24, 2007

You were such a regal, beautiful chocolate lab.  The largest lab I have ever seen or owned.  You were gentle, loving, sweet, my constant companion, and we will miss you dearly!  I open the door looking forward to seeing your wagging tail, getting kisses, and a smile, but now I only have the memories……

Always concerned about your family, no food could ever be consumed in our house without you tasting it first.  You loved us so much, the thought of the food being poison horrified you!  SO, you put your life on the line many times a day, making sure what we ate, was fit for our consumption.  Around Christmas, when I baked over 75 dozen cookies a year, you made sure each batch was PERFECT.  You would let me know immediately when they came out of the oven if there was a problem.  Sitting on the kitchen floor, every time those cookies were placed on the table or packages to go to friends, you protected everyone by making sure they were good to eat.  We will never forget what you sacrificed to make sure we were eating good food!

You and grandpa are now in heaven together.  I am sure grandpa is feeding lots of treats and you have found a way to look so hungry as you beg on his shoulder.  We miss you both, and I am sure grandpa was waiting for you when you arrived – treats in hand.

Maggie misses you terribly, as we all do.  Her appetite has dwindled, and she keeps running to the car to see when you are coming home.  SO used to you going away for ½ an hour every other week for your allergy shots, she did not think you were not going to return.  She is lonely without you, and now she is in charge of licking away the tears flowing because we miss you!

We will never forget you.  Our hearts ache.  You gave so much and asked for nothing but love (and a little food) in return.  I keep waking up at night reaching over to pet you, but there is an empty space next to the bed.

When a person dies, so the legend goes, all of the animals they have had in their lifetime will be waiting for them at the gates of Paradise - old Italian Proverb.  I look forward to seeing you again.
