"Tucker"

DOB  est. January 2001

Rescued from NY Kill Shelter

- October 2001 -

It is incredibly sad to encounter a purebred Lab with full blown MANGE.  Given 3 weeks intensive vet treatment, he was recently released to LILRR foster and is non-contagious but requires further medications and treatment.  hard to capture in pictures, his skin is mottled with raw spots, scales, scabs and extensive hair loss.  Tucker is improving with a regimen of medication and special diet.  Come back for updates!

- October 2002 Update -

Tucker has spent almost a year enduring test after test, shampoo after shampoo and eliminating foods that may be the cause of severe allergies.  He would stabilize but skin whelps, sores and lesions were impossible to eradicate.  Suspecting other allergens, Dr. Panich of Long Island Veterinary Specialists ran a full allergy test.  Results show Tucker is severely allergic to the Elm, Maple, Oak, Walnut, & Pine trees, Short Ragweed, Russian Thistle weeds, Alternaria and Cladosporium molds, common house fly and  HUMANS!  He has a slightly less severe reaction to Birch, Red Cedar, Sycamore & Mulberry trees, June & Orchard grass & cat dander.  Tucker recently began the desensitizing Allergy Vaccine that requires a very strict vaccination regiment for six-twelve months with hope to eventually decrease the need to seasonal, or less.

- February 2003 Update -

Tucker has been balanced using an anti-allergen, Temeril-P but continues seasonal bouts.  Med is kept to lowest dosage and administered based on Tucker's immediate condition and distress.
