'Zena'

CT Lab Rescue contacted LILRR mid-January 2006 regarding 'Zena', a rescued pup with megaesophagus (like Pipsqueak) their foster volunteer was having a difficult time caring for - they remembered we have Pipsqueak (healthy and doing wonderfully on his special dining program) and asked if our foster would accept Zena.  When asked, Pip jumped with joy and the beautiful chocolate female pupster entered LILRR late January.  It took a couple weeks to lock into a dining program she would not, later, regurgitate but we did and she is gaining a healthy few pounds.  We hope she, unlike Pipsqueak, is candidate for corrective surgery and local specialists await xrays taken by CT vet.  Tune in later for updates on this delightful and gentle girl - she loves to play ball with Pipsqueak and quickly locked onto Amber as surrogate 'Mom'...

March 2006 - Emergency Surgery

November 2006 - Update

Fall 2006:  Zena's megaesophagus began worsening, to the point she could not hold anything down - regardless consistency, elevation and resting pre & post dining - not even water.  Corrective surgery unavailable, our only alternative (to keep her alive) was to surgically implant a feeding tube into her stomach - and that would not guarantee her safe livelihood (or pleasant livelihood).

November 3rd:  with sadness of heart, Zena was walked to 'The Bridge'.  This loving sweetheart is, now, healthy and happily playing with wonderful friends.  We will see her again one day.  doG bless her for gracing our life on earth.
